An honest month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Da Nang — weather, sea, crowds and prices, plus which months to skip and why.

The best time to visit Da Nang is roughly February to May, giving you warm days, a swimmable sea, and prices that sit well below the summer peak. Vietnam's central coast runs on its own weather clock, staying sunny and dry in spring while the north gets grey drizzle and the south starts to flood. Arrive during this sweet spot and you can swim a calm, clear My Khe Beach before breakfast.

Da Nang has a long dry season and a shorter, sharper wet one.
The dry season runs roughly February to August. It is driest from February to April, bringing mostly clear skies, climbing summer humidity, and a calm sea.
The wet season runs September to December. October alone gets around 650 mm of rain, making it the wettest month by a wide margin. Rainy season here rarely means all-day drizzle. You usually get heavy, dramatic bursts for an hour or two, then the sky clears and the streets steam dry. The real exceptions are October and November. These months bring the peak typhoon window. Storms can cause a few washed-out days and dangerous ocean conditions. Between the storms, you still get plenty of bright, warm hours.

This is when Da Nang is at its easy best. Days are warm but comfortable, humidity is manageable, and the sea off My Khe and the main beaches is calm, clear, and reliably swimmable. March and April are the top picks. You get full beach days without July's heat, and hotel rates sit below the summer peak. You just need to plan around Tết (Vietnamese Lunar New Year, usually late January or February) and the April 30 to May 1 holiday.
Summer is when Da Nang fills up with domestic travelers. This is the main Vietnamese school holiday season. Families pour in from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, making the beach, hotels, and flights highly expensive and fully booked. July is the hot, crowded peak. Expect 34°C afternoons, strong sun, and busy sand by mid-morning. Go early or late in the day and drink plenty of water.
The big upside to picking a hot month is the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF). It lights up the Han River across several weekend nights in summer. Check our DIFF 2026 dates, tickets and viewing spots guide for the schedule.
This is Da Nang's quietest and cheapest stretch. Prices soften, beaches empty out, and the wet city takes on a moody atmosphere. Just be honest with yourself about the weather. October is the wettest month by far. Along with November, it carries the peak typhoon risk. The sea is often too rough and murky to swim, so watch for lifeguard red flags. Some boat trips and outdoor tours will pause during storms. December eases back toward dry weather. It is cooler, calmer, and offers great value if you are here mainly for the city, food, and day trips.
A sudden rainy-season downpour on a Vietnamese city street
Weather is only half the story. Da Nang's busiest and priciest days are set by the Vietnamese holiday calendar.
For the best value, aim for the shoulder weeks in January, early February before Tết, September, and December. Prices soften noticeably in the wet season, and you will find the city far calmer.
A bad beach month in Da Nang is still a good time to visit. You just shift your focus. The reliable swimmable window runs roughly February through August, with the calmest, clearest water in spring. The sea starts roughening as September's rains build. Always check conditions and flags before going in. Our guide to whether My Khe is safe for swimming explains the rip currents and red-flag system.
When the sea turns rough, head for the hills. Ba Na Hills, the Son Tra Peninsula, the Marble Mountains, and a day trip to Hoi An are often better in the cooler, cloudier months. Rainy-day indoor spots like cafés, museums, and spas easily fill the gaps. A wet forecast just means you plan differently.
Ba Na Hills in the clouds — a good rainy-season alternative to the beach
Weather tables miss the human element. When a downpour catches you off-guard, a café owner will wave you in from the doorway before you can even ask. A xe ôm driver will happily reroute you to a dry-day alternative rather than take your money for a soaked beach. Even in a steady drizzle, the market vendors are out with their umbrellas up, setting up as usual. You pick your month for the weather, but the locals make a rainy October week feel like a great trip.
What is the rainiest month in Da Nang? October is the wettest month by far, with November close behind. These two months carry the main typhoon risk. Expect heavy bursts and some washed-out days rather than constant drizzle.

Once you have your travel window, you can build your days around it. Our 3-day, 5-day, and 7-day Da Nang + Hoi An itineraries easily adapt to beach weather or rainy-day alternatives.
